We are looking for full and part time workers. You must be available and willing to commit to work for the duration of the summer season. 

A current RCMP police information check will be need for those 18 years old and older from the last 6 months before the start of your employment.

2024 Senior Lifeguard/ Instructor ( Full-Time, Part-time)

Lifeguard Instructors Senior

Position term:  the beginning May 11th- 20th to Sept 4th  

Hours of Work: Varying day, evening & weekend shifts.

 

Job Summary

The Senior Lifeguard, under the direction of the Pool Supervisor, must provide pool supervision to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment, and be capable of providing first aid treatment where necessary. The Senior Lifeguard will be responsible for the overall safety of a variety of patrons utilizing the pool facilities as well as be able to supervise and mentor Junior guards and Attendants. Other responsibilities will include maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area to ensure safety and ease of use as well as assisting the Community Services Manager as needed. The Senior Lifeguard must have all required certifications.

  • Teamwork – Works cooperatively and effectively with others to reach a common

Job Duties

  • Ensure pool procedures are reviewed and updated regularly
  • Enforce all pool rules
  • Supervise assigned areas to ensure the safety of all patrons
  • Ensure the Town of Vulcan safety standards and policies are maintained at all times and Adhere to the Code of Conduct for National Lifeguards and Instructors
  • Document, and report to your supervisor, any incidents that occur during your
  • Provide first aid treatment as required
  • Process program registrations, pool rentals and deposits
  • Update program attendance
  • Read the communication log and initial
  • Teach or instruct swimming, Aquafit and other lessons and programs
  • The Senior Lifeguard is expected to assist, if necessary, the Community Services Manager and Pool Supervisor, with all duties assigned to them including, but not limited to programming, school booking
  • Safeguard lives and provide a safe and enjoyable swimming environment at or above the NL and LS level for all patrons
  • Attend all staff training sessions /in-service planned throughout the season
  • Be alert, physically fit, and ready to work at all times
  • Be in proper uniform and suitable attire at all times when on duty
  • Have on file, at the pool, and at the Vulcan Town Office, a photocopy of current NL, LS, Standard First Aid and AED certifications as well as any other applicable
  • Be ready, and on deck, for your scheduled shift Lifeguards should arrive 10-20 minutes early for shifts
  • The Senior Lifeguard is required to train, supervise, and mentor the junior and Assistant guards, and Attendants on their shift ensuring safety and safe practices are being adhered to
  • Responsible to ensure the safety and use of safe practices of the junior and Assistant guards, Attendants, and other senior guards on staff
  • Check the pool chemistry at regular intervals to ensure pool standards are met as per the times scheduled in the chlorine book
  • Assist in planning of lesson and program scheduling
  • Liaison with the schools for bookings throughout the school year
  • Maintain the inventory list
  • Review the rental schedule to ensure there is adequate staffing and to avoid double bookings
  • All other duties as assigned by the Pool Supervisor, Shift Supervisor and Community Services Manager
  • Check the pool chemistry at regular intervals to ensure pool standards are met as per the times scheduled in the chlorine book

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have worked at least one season as a Junior Lifeguard
  • Must provide a clean criminal record check including vulnerable sector check
  • Current Standard First Aid and AED
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool Award
  • Current Swim and Lifesaving Instructor
  • Ensure that all necessary qualifications and certifications are kept current
  • Be willing to upgrade training as needed
